Spot On with Qlikview Load Statements

Qlik specialists and Qlik partners have made the business of finding information, and doing so efficiently, much easier than in the past. You no longer need to slog through mountains of data, because a wide range of Qlik products are available for specialists to use in order to find and analyse exactly what they need, and to present it in the most efficient manner. One aspect of this is the use of Qlikview load statements.

1. What are load statements?

Essentially, load statements give you exactly what you ask for. In Qlikview you will type in a load statement stating exactly what information you want to retrieve, and from which file. It then searches that file and retrieves only the information which you have requested.

For example, if you set your load statement to search an employee information database for employee names then only their names will be extracted from that file. This means that you are presented with only the necessary information regarding the relevant employee, which saves a lot of time.

2. What if I need information from different files loaded together?

Businesses often need specific information gathered in one place from different source files, and load statements can help with this as well. Our Qlik specialists are well trained in the use of concatenate load statements for just this.

Basically, concatenation means that the different pieces of information (such as columns in a table) will be attached to one another. We use this to search for specific fields/information in different files, each with its own load statement. All of these separate loads are then joined in the resulting table, the same as if there was only a single load, keeping things simple.

3. Will this take longer to do?

Yes, it will take longer. However, despite the extra time this will take it is still much quicker than an intensive manual search. There are also ways to improve the speed of concatenation load statements.
